Although I am primarily a landscape painter, I paint whatever subject matter interests me on an abstract level. I find endless inspiration in the landscape and natural beauty of the American West and am fortunate to call Colorado my home. My paintings are representational in style, and I use a limited palette to create strong color harmony. I create my work both en plein air and in the studio based on reference photographs and studies. When painting en plein air my goal is to capture the essence of a scene at a particular moment in time. Spending time in nature is a great learning experience and is essential for an authentic visual description of a scene. Generally, I am drawn to interesting light effects, but I also find inspiration in color and pattern.
