“En Plein Air” is the most honest approach to painting. It’s pure dialogue between the artist and subject. The Rocky Mountain Front where I was born, raised and returned to embraces the essence of this philosophy. I seek to continue this dialogue and expand its scope.”
It is the inspiration of Carl Rungius, Edgar Payne, J.E.H. MacDonald and the Canadian Seven and Emil Gruppe’ that has guided my path along with all artists who share the Plein Air pureness of style. Oil on canvas has allowed me to express my relationship to land and people. A group of fishermen in Italy waited for the finish of my painting before they would unload their boat and a woman in China held my umbrella so I could paint in the rain, but it is the West from Alaska to our southern borders that I truly love to experience and capture on canvas.
This dialogue has allowed invitations to the C.M. Russell auction for the past 20+ years along with Signature membership with the Plein Air Painters of America. Highlights in a 25-year career include Grand Prize for the National Arts for the Parks; inclusion within the Encyclopedia of Women Artists of the American West and invitation to the Maynard Dixon Show.
