Born and raised in the small town of Yellow Springs, Ohio, Tim graduated from the Cooper Union School of Art in New York City in 1984, where graphic design was his primary focus. After finishing school, he worked at several design firms in NYC before moving to San Francisco in 1992, where he continued to work as a designer.
Tim took his first painting class in 1998, followed by another in the fall of ’99. and within a year was completely hooked. He began painting more and more, and doing less and less graphic design. In the fall of 2006 he closed his design business and now paints full time.
About half his work is done on location, or “plein air”, and the rest is done in his studio from studies or photographs.
Tim lives in Fairfax with his wife and 2 boys, teaches several plein air workshops every year, and paints all over the Bay Area and beyond.
