Artist Statement:

Susette Billedeaux Gertsch M.F.A. (Master of fine art – Brigham Young University)

Her forte is figures and florals in oils and acrylics with special emphasis on garden settings and plein air subjects.

She taught high school for many years and transitioned in 2005 to a full-time professional studio and plein air painting focus while offering some private instruction and maintains a gallery/studio by appointment (due to frequent travels), in Midway, Utah.

Currently she is updating her online presence with and These in-progress websites feature her paintings and flair for inspiring others to blossom with their own creative gifts.

Born in Montana, schooled in California, and later relocated in Midway, Utah, she served with other artists and friends to found the Midway Art Association (2004). Her contributions to the art community include innovation of annual art events: Wasatch Plein Air Paradise, MAA Fall Art Retreat, Plein air Utah, and the Midway Moomba Summer Arts event of 2019.

Dance, camping, daily Qi Gong, energy work, inventive cooking, and now growing her own micro-greens are a few of her many interests.

With friends, grown children, and grandkids living in the western U.S.A. she is motivated to travel as she paints. International art expeditions to Europe (while camping in her rented SUV), plus two life changing excursions to Russia, have blessed her long and colorful career. One special highlight was living as a guest artist in a Russian orthodox monastery in Rostov, Russia.

Montana will always be a big part of her artistic inspiration, however, private and public gardens from Kalispell to Balboa Park-California, to the oceans edge, and back to her garden in Midway keep her on the move and full of energy. Her life motto could be summed up in a five word exclamation, “Life-Love-Learn-Heal-Paint!”
